Track your Racks

Young people don’t care about banking. It feels boring, complicated and out of touch. As Africa’s biggest bank, we needed to find a way to make them care about their money, not just on payday, but all month long.

Young people never check their bank statements, but you know what they do check every day? Spotify.

We created Track Your Racks: a playlist that reflects your spending habits. Using behavioural science and predictive modelling, we grouped customers by financial behaviour. Then we partnered with Spotify to create our dynamic playlist that updated itself based on a customer’s money habits. If your finances were up, you heard songs like “Ballin” by Roddy Rich. And if your finances were down, you heard songs like “She Aint Got No Money in the Bank” by Swizz Beats. No need to check your bank statement because our playlist told you everything. Since we had their spending data, we could then retarget users with tools and products tailored to their financial needs. We made banking feel less like a chore and more like a vibe. And the youth? They listened.
